NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE US MEDAL. ORIGINAL LARGE CASE and RIBBON BAR

NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Was established by President Eisenhower, on April 22, 1953.

It is awarded to every member of the U.S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty, or as an active reservist during any one of four specified periods of armed conflict or national emergency from June 27, 1950 through December 31, 2022. 

Circular medal made in bronze. Measures: 30 mm. diameter.

Obverse: an eagle holding a sword and an olive branch. Inscription: NATIONAL DEFENSE

Reverse: the shield of the Coat of Arms of the US.

Used. Ribbon bar and original large case very damaged by use and dislodged, with difficulty to close it as can be seen in the photographs.

Medal in regular condition, own collection, rear clip is broken!

Qualifying service for the award of the medal can be for distinctive meritorious achievement and service, acts of courage involving no voluntary risk of life, or sustained meritorious performance of duty.

Medal awarded to the Airman Michael A. Yakutis who served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. All pieces of this medal set are original from the Vietnam War.
