It was established on December 17, 1972 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the USSR

Awarded to individuals, organizations, companies, military units and the administrative subdivisions for achievements in strengthening inter-racial and international friendship and cooperation, for economic, political, scientific, military development and culture of the USSR. In general 72.760 decorations were awarded.

Multi-piece construction, silver gilt and enamels. Weight with ribbon: 54 gr. Size:  47mm.
