Ἐλεούσα, "tenderness" in Greek is an iconographic form of representation of the Child Jesus and the Virgin, typical of Byzantine art. Its origin is in the world Coptic (Christian Egypt).

The Virgin holds the Child, their faces touched, and Child puts an arm around your neck or shoulder.

The scene shows the strong bond that unites them as mother and son, theologically called Theotokos (Mary as mother of God). It presents the faithful to Mary as the mother of all Christians, identified with the Church. It represents the fullness of love between God and man, a love whose culmination can be achieved only within the Church, one of whose attributes is "Mother".

The originals are in museums and churches in Bulgaria, Russia, Greece and other countries.

I do all these works myself, and by own hand.

First, I prepare the table by applying 7-8 layers of a mixture of rabbit tail, chalk (calcium carbonate) and water. Once dry, I smooth the surface to make it smooth.

Then I draw the outline and the main lines of the icon and I proceed to apply oil paint.

The faces, hands and feet are painted by myself at the end as well as their luminous tones.

To finish the job, I write the inscriptions and in some my signature, which is my name in Russian Cyrillic "лаура", and the year that I painted it.

Once finished, and when it has completely dried, I apply a thin layer of varnish to protect it.
