PRISONER OF WAR MEDAL FOR ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Instituted 1985, and awarded to members of the U.S. military who have been made prisoner or held captive by opposing forces after April 5, 1917. To be eligible, the individual must have demonstrated upstanding character while in captivity thus preventing presentation to collaborators. Also granted posthumously to the next of kin of deceased Prisoners of War.
Circular medal made in bronze. Measures: 30 mm. diameter.
