SPAIN MILITARY MEDAL OF THE CAMPAIGN 1936-1939 CIVIL WAR - SERVICES IN REARGUARD (GREEN BADGE) - CASE, MINI MEDAL, LAPEL PIN, RIBBON BAR (SP-12)
The Campaign Medal 1936-1939 was a Spanish military decoration awarded between 1938 and 1939, during the Spanish Civil War by the Franco's Government. It was delivered to reward interventions in war operations, or services on rearguard lines.
It had a single category but had two different types: one intended to reward the combat actions in the fireline, and the other for services in the rearguard. All the ribbons had the colors of the Spanish flag, with its outer edges of black for merit of combat, or green for services in the rearguard.
50.000 medals were awarded: 48.000 went to reward combat merits, and 2.000 for services in the rearguard.
The insignia of this medal was circular in shape and measured 37 millimeters in diameter and three millimeters thick. In its inner part it was covered in black with some elements and the golden edge.
On its obverse a lion was represented fighting with a dragon next to a hammer and sickle , a symbol of communism. Behind the figures of the lion and the dragon you could see the Laureate Cross of San Fernando , made of gilded metal and, at the top, a rising sun accompanied by the inscription " July 17, 1936 " located in the upper left quadrant indicated by the Laureate Cross. The border was decorated with two branches, one of laurel and the other of oak .
On the back there was the Franco's shield with the Eagle of San Juan in flight and made of gilded metal, the yoke and arrowhead , a war helmet and the expression "Arriba España". On the border you can read the legend " GENESSMO FRANCO, VICTOR, UNA GRANDE LIBRE IMPERIAL ML.HSP.GLOR. " (Latin acronym that in Spanish means "To Greater Glory of Spain").
Original complete set, with luxury box (but this one is not original, it's added), medal with enamels (single construction) with hallmark of "INDUSTRIAS EGAÑA", one miniature ceremonial medal, ribbon bar and lapel pin. In excellent condition.
