Awarded to troops of the Interior Ministry (MOOP/MVD) and security forces for their courage and dedication in the preservation of public order and crime fighting
2 variants: 1st variant (1950-1957) made of solid silver. Later variants of silver-plated nickel since 1960. Width 32.24 mm. The different is in the number of banners in the Soviet emblem. 8 left banners in the 1st variant and 7 in the 2nd variant (Change of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic to an Autonomous Republic in 7-16-1956)
Obverse: За отличную службу по охране общественного порядка (For Distinction in the Protection of Public Order)
Reverse: CCCP
The Soviet design differed from the current variant by the omission of the laurel and oak wreath from the obverse and the addition of a small five pointed star near the top above the inscription.
Its reverse bore the relief image of the State Emblem of the Soviet Union over the relief inscription «СССР»
